Well hello there! My name is Kimberly and I’m a photographer in Austin, TX.
The first blog post is a pretty big deal, right?! It’s the first impression and the chance to give you an idea of who I am, what I do, and why I do it. So the pressure is on. I guess the best approach is to tell you WHY I do what I do, and why I love it. Hopefully that’s what you want to know anyway.
Boudoir and Beauty Photography is special, I think a lot of people still don’t know what it is. I also think that some people may shy away from the style because they don’t understand it. So maybe it will help if I start by telling you what boudoir photography is NOT. Boudoir is not bad, dirty, or naughty. It’s not a narcissistic indulgence or only for voyeurs, and it is definitley not pornography. It’s not just something women hesitantly do for their significant other in an attempt to get attention or approval. And it isn’t something you should be ashamed of. So now that we have that out of the way… let me tell you what it IS, and what it means to me.

Beauty and boudoir photography is empowering, it’s intimate photography that captures a woman in a beautiful, feminine, sexy way. What happens as a result is will helping a woman to see that true sensuality that she might have thought she lost somewhere along the way, or maybe even never thought she had to begin with. It can change the way a woman feels about herself, which can also change the way her significant other sees her and start to heal something that was broken. It is important for a woman to view herself as beautiful or sexy, or maybe ‘worth it.’ How you feel about yourself is important, and whether you struggle with self-confidence, body issues, a scar, feeling womanly, feeling desirable or desired, whatever it may be… Seeing yourself as beautiful through a set of images, can make a huge difference. Maybe you already think you’re great just how you are, it is important to celebrate that too! So let me hit you with a little history…
I started my business in 2008. I loved the art of photography and wanted to make it a career, so I went to work for a wedding photographer. I learned a ton during my time with her and eventually started my own business. One of my early clients was a military wife who contacted me wanting to send her deployed husband “sexy”pictures. I didn’t even know what Boudoir photography was, but I was excited about doing any shoot so I jumped at the opportunity. During our session, I was nervous but I was having so much fun! It was a great feeling to be going on this journey with my client and seeing her excitement about what she was doing and being a part of creating beautiful art for her husband. More importantly… upon seeing her photos, the reaction and result was amazing. When my client looked at her images, she saw herself in a different light. She felt beautiful, confident and desirable. She was so proud to send the photos to her husband. So I was hooked and fell in love with the process and creating something artistic and beautiful that also made a woman feel amazing about herself.
Over the years I began to hone in on photographing women more and more. I realized that was a strength for me as an artist, and I also enjoyed it so much! So I decided that it was time to focus more on what I was best at, and what brought me joy. I put a lot of time and energy into learning the most I could about the beauty and boudoir genre, I did mentorships and countless ‘practice’ shoots with friends to develop my skill. Part of that journey brought me to do my own boudoir session with a mentor, and that is when I really knew I had made a great choice in specializing in boudoir…
(SUPER VULNERABLE MOMENT DISCLAIMER) I always struggled with how I felt about myself. I didn’t ever feel womanly or sexy, even into my adult age. I never felt confident about myself. Everyone always told me I was “cute” and I began to hate that word. I wanted to feel grown up, I was about to be a married woman and I didn’t FEEL like a woman. I struggled with who I really was. I put my session off as long as possible, but finally had to do it for the mentorship. And I was so shocked with what happened. The session was so liberating. It was amazing to explore a side of myself that I never felt free to before. I felt empowered to stand in a room full of windows and just be ok with who I was and how I looked in that moment. When I saw the images from that day, multiply all those feelings I just had by infinity. What I saw staring back at me was a sexy woman, a powerful, confident, beautiful WOMAN. I can’t put words on what seeing myself that way did for me in my everyday life, and the impact it had on my relationship with myself and others. When I shoot boudoir, I want to give women like me that same feeling. I want to be a part of changing someone’s self perception. And even if their life doesn’t need changing, every woman should have beautiful portrait of herself.

The point is that beauty and boudoir photography is powerful for everyone, no matter your age, size, stage in life or level of self-confidence. This is for YOU. I want to be a part of helping you find your sexy, bring it back, or celebrate it. I love being a part of that journey, and showing women how lovely they are.
I think maybe it’s best to let the images do the talking. They say it better than I can. Take a browse through my portfolio galleries and see for yourself. Then we can chat about what a beauty or boudoir session would mean to you.
